Best RTP Slots: The Truth About Payout Rates
Every player looks for slots with the highest Return to Player (RTP). But what does RTP really mean? And why does even a 99% RTP slot not guarantee a win in your session? We explain honestly.
What does RTP (Return to Player) mean?
RTP stands for "Return to Player" and indicates what percentage of total bets a slot machine pays back to players over the long term. A slot with 96% RTP theoretically pays back €96 for every €100 wagered. The house edge is therefore 4%.
Why RTP is not a session guarantee
The most important point that many misunderstand: The RTP value is determined over millions, sometimes billions of spins. It says absolutely nothing about what will happen in your next 100 spins. You can multiply your bet tenfold in a short session – or lose everything.
Volatility vs. RTP
Besides the RTP, volatility is crucial:
High volatility: Rare wins, but they can be very large (e.g., Gates of Olympus).
Low volatility: Frequent, but rather small wins (e.g., Starburst).
Many players like highly volatile slots, although the RTP can be identical to slots with low volatility.
Examples of slots with high RTP
- Mega Joker (NetEnt): Up to 99.00%
- Blood Suckers (NetEnt): 98.00%
- 1429 Uncharted Seas (Thunderkick): 98.50%
